| Easily the greatest band of our time, if not all time.
If you aren't familiar with them, or are only slighty, let me know. I'll hook you up.

| I've only heard those that you posted on your Downloading thread. I like what I've heard so far. I also recently downloaded the song, Televators. | |

Televators is the most mellow song from that album. Great, atmospheric song. Check out the video for it, too.

| I remember when I was really into Dreamtheater, people were mentioning I should "transition" my listening habits over to them. I never really did, though. I think I heard one of their songs. Maybe. I eventually went on to Liquid Tension Experiment, and now, I barely listen to any prog rock anymore . | |

| They're pretty awesome. Not too many successful instrumentally talented musicians around today so thumbs up for The Mars Volta. They tend to go a bit pretentious* at times with long silences, inane lyrics and crappy fillers** but the majority of their stuff is solid. Eriatarka is one of the greatest songs I've ever heard, amazing ensemble piece. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Zam3qALUuk
I'd rate them highly among prog-rock bands.
*Marked by an unwarranted claim to importance or distinction
**Tool is guilty of this too I'm afraid.

**Tool is guilty of this too I'm afraid. I agree with you on everything, except the pretention bit. They certainly could come off as pretentions, considering the nature of the lyrics, and the fact that 2 of their 3 LP's are concept albums, but the band themselves, mainly Omar and Cedric, are two of the most humble, down to earth guys ever. They just don't give a shit. They don't care if they ever sell a single album, and it shows. They make the music they want to hear, that no one else can or will make.
